The right side of the museum starts with local WWI history and moves through the years with many artifacts and precious family heirlooms.
Who We Are
Macon County is located in the southwestern corner of North Carolina. It has a rich, well documented history and unlike many western North Carolin counties, most of Macon’s records have survived. Macon County Historical Society’s purpose is to bring together people interested in history, especially Macon County history; to discover and collect any object or material that may help establish or illustrate the history of the area; to provide the preservation of historical objects and other materials; and to undertake the preservation of historic buildings, monuments, and markers. The Society operates the Macon County Historical Museum, which is located in one of the oldest buildings still standing in Franklin, the Pendergrass Building. The Museum is where local history is being collected, preserved, and interpreted.
